The OU-31 blade was individually hand-forged to our design specifications by the Japanese master blade-maker and grinder, Kiku. No two finished knives are identical. The design of the blade plus the handle interpretation are the creation of Gregg Salter, owner of Salter Fine Cutlery.
This one features a unique hand-filed decorative metal accent of nickel-silver, plus stainless steel bolster and additional decorative accent pieces of red, black Mozambique ebony and nickel-silver. The main body of the handle is very rare and curly Hawaiian koa wood.
Kiku’s trademark Damascus pattern stands out with its matte finish as the perfect compliment to the handle, making this an absolutely impressive looking knife.
Kiku's famed ‘magic hand’ appleseed grind makes it incredibly sharp. This grind is the same sort of edge grind used in Japanese swords. It is tough, durable, amazingly sharp, and easy to maintain.
Gregg individually hand-contours each handle to create a unique and distinctive look so that every Kiku collectible knife is an original work of art.
Included with the knife is a handcrafted premium koa Salter hook stand for display. Also includes a certificate of authenticity.
Because these collectible blades are so beautiful, we’ve saved our most desirable reserve stock of exceptionally rare, old growth koa to use for the handles, stands and premium boxes. This wood has the characteristic koa chatoyance and tight curl that makes it such a stunning wood choice. You will be amazed to see the wood change color and the stripes change their appearance as you look at it from different angles and lighting; simply amazing.
