Your Salter Fine Cutlery chef knife or knife set is as unique as YOU are! Every knife has been hand-forged by a traditional blademaker in Japan, most from our own design specs. Plus every handle has been handcrafted from start to finish for you in our Hawaii workshop.
What else makes a Salter Fine Cutlery knife different from a store-bought production made chef knife?
Scroll to learn SOME of the differences:
Custom designs:
- One-of-a-kind knives and sets created to your own tastes
- Unique shapes and decorative options to reflect your personality or decor
- Ability to customize the shape or length of most blades by special order
Highest quality steels throughout:
- Knives made from a single bar of steel including the internal parts you cannot see.
- Most production made knives use a lesser quality steel for the outer blade coating and/or welded sections on the steel that extends inside the handle.
- Longer durability and quality
- Less prone to rust in most cases
- Greater edge retention=less sharpening needed
Solid high quality steel construction throughout on full-tang knives:
*Note: On 'full-tang" knives the handles consist of slabs of wood or other material with steel showing along the entire edge of the handle.
- Our full tang knives are also made from a single piece of steel.
- No welded pieces
- No cheaper steels
- No gimmicks. Many production made knives, even from well-known manufacturers, keep prices lower by placing what looks like a piece of steel on their full-tang handles, but is simply a thin slice of metal with a bit of woven looking metal rope connecting the top of the handle to the piece of metal at the bottom of the handle.
Solid Metal handle accents:
- See the No Gimmicks section above!
- If you order metal accents, they are solid metal. Never just a soft shell that 'looks' like metal
Real wood handles:
- No plastic
- No 'faux' wood
- Experience the feel, beauty, and comfort of real wood
Environmentally friendly:
- Most handles made from reclaimed wood
- No endangered species used...EVER
- No large machines using lots of electricity. Most of our processes are done by hand without machinery at all. The machines we do use are small and used sparingly. Electricity use is also kept at a minimum as we primarily work by natural light
A company who cares:
- No listening to endless 'options have recently changed' recordings
- No runaround
- E-mails and phone calls answered as soon as possible
- You will ALWAYS be talking to someone knowledgeable with every call or email because you will always be talking to the owner of the business or the writer of this blog, who can always assist you
- Customer satisfaction over profits. A small owner-operated company is primarily interested in the satisfaction of every individual client. A large corporation is interested in the best marketing to achieve the best profits. They look at the big picture, we care about every client, large or small.
